Workmans Compensation (Industrial Services)

At AMPT, we realize the financial and emotional impact that results when someone gets hurt on the job. We work with employers, case managers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals every day to help injured employees return to work quickly and reduce the likelihood of further injury. All new patients are seen within 24-48 hours of their referral date, and same day appointments are also available.

Our physical therapists are experienced professionals trained to evaluate conditions and provide a personalized plan of intervention for patients. These specialized interventions include targeted exercises, manual therapy techniques, and pain control measures to address specific conditions. We take the patient's age, daily work responsibilities, activities, and personal goals into consideration.

We will communicate frequently with employers, physicians, and case managers regarding the progress of their workers compensation patients. We believe that patient accountability and active participation maximize the effectiveness of treatment and long-term recovery; if an employee fails to keep a scheduled appointment, we notify the employer, physician, and case manager of the missed visit the same day.

  • Personalized consulting services for injury prevention
  • All new evaluations scheduled within 24-48 hours of notification
  • ASTYM
  • Licensed Physical Therapists
  • Ongoing communication with employer, physician, insurance company, and case manager regarding patient progress, recovery, and attendance

Sports Medicine

Sports related injuries can be both acute and chronic in nature, occurring from obvious trauma or subtly over time from an overuse situation.

Treatment of an athletic/sports related injury is best implemented following a thorough evaluation, and the establishment of specific and individualized functional goals that, when achieved, will allow the individual to return to the activity level desired. Restoring range of motion, strength, flexibility, and eliminating pain, swelling, and inflammation are essential. Addressing muscle imbalances and correcting those will also aid in the performance of the athlete, once he or she is safe to return to playing. We develop and implement individualized sport specific rehabilitation programs for each athlete, and his or her needs.

The rehabilitation of the athlete is not completed when the athlete can walk or move the involved extremity, but only when he or she has been returned to the prior level of play before the injury occurred. It is for this reason, the therapists at AMPT encourage maintaining communication with the athlete/patient, even after discharge from formal treatment, in order to assist and guide the individual while progressing their program independently. At AMPT, we believe that own job is not done until the athlete/patient has returned to a level of function with which he or she is satisfied. Our goal is to help you reach yours.

Therapeutic Exercises
Utilizes individualized programs designed with specific goals for each patient. The physical therapist will work one-on-one with the patient to teach these specific exercises and activities to reach the goals of the rehabilitative program including improved range of motion, increased strength, normalization of gait and posture, and increase in endurance for return to routine, work and recreational activities. The exercises may include strength training both active and resistive, aerobic conditioning, stretching, and mechanics training.

Joint Mobilization
Similar to, but less forceful than manipulation is a hands on technique performed by a physical therapist to increase joint range of motion and decrease painful movement of the joint. During this technique the patient's joint surfaces are passively glided across each other in an attempt to increase movement of the joint. Gentle joint traction may also be used during this technique to aid in increasing mobility and stretching of the joint capsule. There are various grades and types of mobilizations that are used to treat many different joints in the body including the spine, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, pelvis, knee and foot.

Muscle Energy
This involves the patient actively using his or her muscles from a controlled position in a specific direction against counterforce applied by the physical therapist. Goals of this treatment are to assist in normalizing joint position and function.

Postural Restoration
This unique treatment approach used by our trained physical therapists addresses the underlying mechanical influences of the body that may lead to pain and dysfunction. Posture and proper respiration are focuses with this manual therapy treatment. Patients experiencing pain at the knee, hip, groin, SI joint, back, shoulders, between the shoulder blades, neck and TMJ are treated with this technique.

Strain/Counter-Strain
This is a manual therapy technique used to relieve pain and restore function. The objective is to maximize relaxation of the body part involved, thereby normalizing neuromuscular reflexes.

Soft Tissue Mobilization / Manual Therapy
Massage and soft tissue mobilization are hands on techniques used by physical therapists to increase blood flow, decrease pain and muscle spasm, and to increase soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) mobility. Techniques used include myofascial stretching, deep friction massage, and trigger point release. Trigger points are hyperirritable taut bands of tissue.

Mechanical traction
This is a gentle, and controlled stretching of the cervical and lumbar spine. This distraction force, commonly used in treating spinal disk problems, helps to decompress the spine and assist in pain reduction and spinal mobility.

Iontophoresis
This is a process that uses electrical current to transmit medication through the skin, into inflammed tissue. It is often used in treating tendonitis.

Electrical stimulation
This i s used in physical therapy treatment programs for different reasons such as pain relief and muscle re-education. Different frequencies and current types have different effects on the tissue.

Phonophoresis
This is the application and delivery of medication through the use of sound waves (ultrasound). A cream or gel preparation (usually a high concentration cortisone preparation) is applied to the skin and then ultrasound is utilized to drive the medication through the skin to the structures below. This process helps reduce inflammation.

Ultrasound
This modality works by the use of inaudible sound waves that are transmitted into the soft tissue. The physiological high frequency effects of ultrasound include increased blood flow and cellular activity to help speed up the healing process of many common injuries.

Hot Packs/Cold Packs
This is commonly used before and/or after therapy treatments to enhance the effectiveness of the other procedures. The superficial heat provided by hot packs is used to increase blood flow, decrease pain and stiffness and to promote muscle relaxation. Cold packs are applied to specific body areas to decrease pain, spasm, and swelling (inflammation).

ASTYM - Watch a short video of the ASTYM process
Most treatments ignore soft-tissue dysfunctions such as adhesions, scar tissue and inappropriate fibrosis. ASTYM treatment directly addresses unhealthy soft tissue through an innovative treatment process that years of scientific research and clinical trails have demonstrated to be effective.

A certified clinician, following a specific protocol, non-invasively locates and treats the dysfunctional tissue using specially designed, patented instrumentation. This approach induces the patient's body to respond by initiating the healing cascade. This includes macrophage mediated phagocytosis (microdebridement) and local release of growth factors that result in an increase in fibroblast recruitment and activation. A customized stretching and exercise program is prescribed to promote optimal tissue healing and collagen remodeling.

Throughout the treatment, patients are encouraged to stay active in their work, sport or daily activities. This is important, as it facilitates stronger and more functional tissue and decreases the risk of re-injury.

"At AZ Multisports Physical Therapy, I felt like I was welcomed into the office. I received very good guidance, an excellent set of exercises to do on my own for my shoulder and the progress seemed to be measured more closely and more accurately than in another experience I'd had with physical therapy. Marlene really took an interest in my activity and spoke the language of my sport and it seemed that she could lend that knowledge to the healing process."

-Joe W

"I've had 4 operations on the same knee which can be a very trying and negative experience with rehab. The people at Arizona Multisports Physical Therapy made it a very positive experience in that they put together a very clear, concise schedule and then held me to that schedule and accomplished everything that we set out to do. It was because of Marlene and her teams diligence, patience and expertise with me that made it a very positive experience."
